Safety & Risk Management
Safety comes first in everything we do at Lifeworks. Our programs are adventurous and to say that there are no risks would be misleading. However, awareness of potential risks helps control them. Risk management and safety training are core parts of our programs and are integrated in many specific ways...

program design and structure Unique to Lifeworks is that our programs are run in collaboration with local people and service organizations. This allows for a high level of emergency preparedness, as on-the-ground coordinators often have the greatest understanding of local emergency resources. |

staff experience and training Lifeworks staff are multi-talented, qualified professionals with extensive experience and training in international travel, safety and emergency procedures. All staff are first aid and CPR certified, and many hold advanced training certificates such as Wilderness First Responder or EMT. |

staff supervision Most programs maintain a 5:1 student to staff ratio. Our staff travel with the students full-time and are available 24 hours a day. Most excursions are done as a whole group. Student exploration in small groups, without a staff member, is allowed only in approved locations. Please click here to learn more about our staff. |

emergency phones All programs are equipped with an emergency cell phone, and staff keep in regular contact with the Lifeworks Florida office. When students are allowed to explore in small groups - without a staff accompaniment - they can carry their personal cell phones and are provided the Lifeworks Emergency Contact Card. |

safety orientations From our pre-trip information packets to our safety briefings to work project orientations and tool training, students have the opportunity to learn how one can travel and volunteer safely abroad. |
