Like our students, our staff comes from all over the globe with all sorts of different backgrounds. Together with our ActionQuest programs, in the BVI, we can have as many as 40 staff in one place at the same time. This way our students can interact and learn from a far greater number of fantastic teachers and role models. Lifeworks staff members who operates any of our smaller programs typically has a minimum of two years' experience teaching with us in the BVI.
(^Back To Top^)The qualifications and experience of our staff are diverse. Every member of our team is multi-talented, combining the practical skills essential to the operation of a program while covering their particular area of expertise. They include U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains in the BVI, to qualified teachers and linguists.
(^Back To Top^)The average age of our staff is 28. Some are a little older and some a little younger, as we tend to select staff on the basis of their professional qualifications and experience working with teens, rather than age.
(^Back To Top^)All Lifeworks staff members are trained first aid responders. Additionally, in the BVI, Emergency Medical Technicians sail full time with our ActionQuest fleet close by. In all locations, medical care is always relatively close at hand.
(^Back To Top^)Many of our staff work with us as full-time educators aboard with our Sea-mester programs. Others are traditional teachers during the rest of the year and join us each summer. Typically, we have in excess of 75% returning staff year after year and we feel that this says a lot about Lifeworks as a program. If our staff are having fun, our students are having fun.
(^Back To Top^)Staff to student ratio is 1:4. This provides for the close interaction and individual attention that are our hallmarks.
