Day 1: July 11
Author: Ella
Location: West End, Tortola
Students woke up early, put their toothbrushes in the suitcase and made their
way to Tortola. The weather turned rainy in the evening, so we bonded over
a game of spoons and the 3 golden rules.
Day 2: July 12
Author: Abby
Location: Savannah Bay
We left the dock and sailed for 6 hours. It was Kim's birthday and we baked
her a cake but we didn't have any candles so we wrote 'Happy Birthday' in Cheerios.
We took our first showers in the ocean! We learned how to tack and drive the
boat. In the evening, we got an orientation to the program and what we would
be doing over the next three weeks. We all tried to sleep outside but it started
raining so we had to go inside.
Day 3: July 13
Author: Kelly
Location: Savannah Bay
The weather was amazing!! Hot with a nice breeze... we went onto a beautiful
beach and walked to the windward side to clear the trash that blows onto the
beach. The group seems to be getting more unified which is really nice to see,
it brings a good sense of community...
Day 4: July 14

Location: Anegada
Today was a beautiful day! We woke up at 7 and left pretty quickly for the baths
at Virgin Gorda. The baths and boulders and the whole scene here was one of the
most beautiful things I've ever seen - I feel like I'm in a postcard! We all
had a lot of fun at the baths - jumping off rocks, snorkling and playing team-building
games on the beach. Next, we went to Spanish Town for lunch and had a nice time
there. We came back to the boat at 2:39 and set sail on a 3 hour sail to Anegada
for the night. We had a great day!
Day 5: July 15
Author: Connor
Location: Anegada
Today was another gorgeous day, but we took a well-needed break from the sun by
painting the community center on Anegada. We woke up at 7 and had some hot
oatmeal for breakfast. We took Tony's Taxi to the community center and worked
hard scraping and sanding the walls. Everyone was starving so we scarfed down
PB & J's
for lunch before prepping the center more for tomorrow's paint job. All in all
a very productive day - time for a shower!!
Day 6: July 16
Author: Jessica
Location: Anegada
Today everyone woke up anticipating painting the community center. Little did
we know we would also be tagging turtles in groups of 4 (with the other boat,
Natasha). We washed the walls of the center off before starting to paint. Starting
on the back wall, everyone grabbed a paint roller and went to work. Meanwhile,
people were catching and tagging turtles. Ian, Beanie, Sarah, and I only caught
one turtle, a green turtle, and named him Franklin. PB & J for lunch. Tomato
stroganoff for dinner. After dinner we went to land to pay for the taxis, he brought
fries back for us!! They were devoured in about 10 seconds!
Day 7: July 17
Author: Kim
Location: Leverick Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was so much fun! We didn't have any community service projects so it was
very chill. We woke up at around 7:30 and had a delicious breakfast of fluffy
pancakes (made by chef Julia and sous chef Connor). After breakfast, we sailed
over to Leverick Bay where we had about an hour and a half to hang out in town.
We had a scrumptious lunch in town. After lunch, we sailed a tiny way to Vixen
Point where we learned to drive the dinghies. Although learning to drive the
dinghy was a bit difficult for some (including me), it was fun and we got a
lot of laughs out of it. Tonight we had the BBQ where all the boats from ActionQuest
and Lifeworks meet up to eat and dance together. Everyone looked so pretty. The
BBQ was a lot of fun and we didn't get back to boat until 11:20 to get some well
deserved sleep!
